Leaf Edge

Getting your trades in

There are three ways to get trade data into your journal. They all end up in the same place, so you can mix them, and you can change your mind later. You choose on the Sync page.

Pro & Ultimate

Connect Broker

Authorise a read-only connection through SnapTrade. Trades import on a schedule with nothing further to do.

Most people.

Pro & Ultimate

Use API Keys

Generate credentials in your broker's own tools and paste them in. The most accurate data we can get from Interactive Brokers.

IBKR users who want control over exactly what syncs.

Every plan, including Free

Upload File

Export a statement from your broker and drop the file in. Leaf Edge works out the format for you.

Anyone — including brokers we don't connect to directly.

On the Free plan, file upload is your route in — broker connections need Pro or Ultimate.

1. Connect Broker

Pick this if you just want your trades to show up.

  1. 01

    On Sync, choose Connect Broker.

  2. 02

Pick your brokerage and sign in on your broker's own site. Leaf Edge never sees your brokerage username or password — the connection is brokered by SnapTrade, and what comes back to us is a read-only authorisation.

  3. 03

Your existing history imports, and new trades follow on a schedule.

Read-only means read-only

The connection can retrieve positions, balances, and executions. It cannot place, modify, or cancel an order, and it cannot move money.

  • Brokers occasionally expire an authorisation, often after a password change. The account then shows a reconnect prompt on Sync — reconnect the existing connection rather than adding a second one, or you'll end up with two accounts for the same brokerage.
  • A sync reporting success means the sync ran. If the broker returned no new activity, that is still a success — nothing changed.

2. Use API Keys (Interactive Brokers Flex)

IBKR exposes its own reporting service, and going through it directly gives the most accurate data we can get for that broker. It takes a few more minutes to set up.

You'll need a Flex Web Service token and one or two Query IDs, created in IBKR's Account Management under Reports → Flex Queries.

Fast Sync query

Set it to look back over the last 30 days. Trade confirmations appear a few minutes after the fill, so your journal keeps up during the session.

Full Sync query

The end-of-day report, carrying complete settlement detail.

Using both means trades arrive quickly and are corrected once the broker finalises them. You can start with just the fast query and add the second later.

3. Upload File

Export a statement and upload it. This works on every plan, and it is the way in for brokers we don't connect to directly. Accepted files are .csv, .xml, and .html statements.

Leaf Edge detects the format from the file's contents, so you don't have to tell it which broker the export came from. If a file isn't recognised, it says so rather than importing half your history.

What the numbers mean

Brokers report executions — individual fills. A journal has to talk in positions: a round trip of what you opened, what you closed, and what you made or lost.

Leaf Edge does that matching for you, oldest fill first. It matters because a single fill has no profit or loss on its own — a buy is just a buy until something closes it. So your trade count in Leaf Edge is usually lower than the number of rows in your export, and that is correct.

Anywhere Leaf Edge shows you P&L, it is showing matched round trips.

Sorting trades into playbooks

Once trades are in, the review workflow wants every trade to be one of two things: linked to a playbook, or marked as an honest no-playbook.

The second is not a cop-out. It is how hedges, accidental fills, and trades from before you started journaling stay out of your playbook statistics without being deleted. The available reasons are Hedge / Risk Management, Accidental Fill, No Matching Playbook, Legacy Trade, and Other.

Go to Sage → Sort. It groups your unorganised trades into candidate setups and lets you accept a group as a playbook or skip it. Once every trade is linked or skipped, your playbook stats describe only the trades you meant to take.

Common questions

Can I use more than one method?
Yes. Connect one broker, upload statements from another, and they live side by side as separate accounts. Use the account filter to look at one at a time.
Will importing the same file twice duplicate my trades?
No. Imports are deduplicated, so a re-sync or a re-upload won't create a second copy of a trade you already have.
Can Leaf Edge place trades for me?
No. Every connection is read-only, and there is no order placement anywhere in the product.
My broker isn't listed.
Try the file upload route with a CSV export — the format detector covers more brokers than the direct-connection list. If your file isn't recognised, send it to us through Report a Bug in the account menu.
Why is my trade count lower than my broker's?
Because Leaf Edge counts round-trip positions, not individual fills. A few thousand executions is often a few hundred actual positions.
