Import guide

tastytrade trading journal: export your transactions and import them

tastytrade lets you download your transaction history as a CSV file, and Leaf Edge imports it on any plan, including Free. The importer has been checked on a real tastytrade export of equity-option trades.

Export the file from tastytrade

  1. Open your transactions

Sign in to the tastytrade desktop platform, open the History tab and choose transactions at the top, not year to date.

  2. Set the filters

Pick the account in Account Filter. Leave the symbol box empty and Type Filter on every type so every trade comes through, then set the start and end dates.

Start before you opened every position you still hold; from your first trade is safest. Assignments, exercises and expirations arrive as Receive Deliver rows, so filtering to trades only would leave out the shares an assignment delivered. Cash movements can stay in: Leaf Edge leaves them out by itself.

  3. Load every row

Scroll to the bottom of the list until every row has loaded: the platform loads 1,000 rows at a time.

  4. Save the CSV

Click the CSV icon and choose where to save the file. If it saves without .csv at the end of its name, add it: Leaf Edge's upload only offers .csv, .xml and .html files. Don't open and save it again in a spreadsheet first: that can change the columns Leaf Edge reads.

Import it into Leaf Edge

  1. Open Upload File in Leaf Edge

Sign in to Leaf Edge and open Sync in the top bar. Choose Upload File. File import works on every plan, including Free.

The Sync page in Leaf Edge with Upload File selected.
  2. Drop the file in

Drag the file onto Upload Trading Statement, or click the box to choose it. Leaf Edge recognises an export from tastytrade by what is inside it, so there is nothing to pick first. Each file can be up to 4 MB and 2,000 rows.

The Upload Trading Statement box on the Sync page.
  3. Check the preview

Nothing is saved yet. Review Import counts the rows as New, Unchanged, Corrections, Skipped and Rejected, and lists each row with its reason. Read every skipped and rejected row before you go on.

If the file holds trades in a currency your journal doesn't have yet, the preview says so. They keep their own currency, and your P&L is shown in the one currency you pick from the filter bar, converted at the European Central Bank's reference rate on the day each trade closed.

An example preview, from an Interactive Brokers statement: counts of new, unchanged, corrected, skipped and rejected rows above the list of rows.
  4. Commit the import

Press Commit import to save the trades, or Cancel preview to leave your journal as it was. Leaf Edge pairs the fills into round trips, so you will usually see fewer trades than the file has rows.

Changed your mind? Undo imported trades appears straight after an import, until your next upload and as long as you haven't started reviewing those trades.

On the web platform

On my.tastytrade.com the same filters and CSV icon are on the History page; some tastytrade pages call it Activity → Transactions. Since February 2026 the web CSV holds every transaction, not only the rows on screen.

What comes in, and what to check

Checked on a real export: equity options, mini options and option expirations included. A six-execution tastytrade file went through with no rejected rows, and its net cash matched the file.

Tested on synthetic files only:

  • Stock and ETF trades.
  • Assignments and exercises of physically settled equity options: the option closes at $0, and the shares it delivered come in as their own trade.
  • Futures, when the file gives their contract multiplier.

Not covered: futures options aren't part of any check yet. Futures-option assignments and exercises, cash-settled assignments and exercises, options with an adjusted (non-standard) deliverable, transfers, splits and symbol changes aren't imported; the preview lists each with its reason.

  • An option that expires worthless closes at $0: Leaf Edge closes an expired option on its own.
  • Money movements such as fees, dividends and interest aren't trades and are left out.
  • A closing trade needs its opening trade in what you import. A close without one is flagged and gets no P&L until you import the older history.
  • Importing the same history again adds nothing twice.
  • Not the Tax Center's Year-to-Date Data Export: that file holds realised gains, not your trades.

Currencies

tastytrade's export is in US dollars. It can share a journal with trades in other currencies: your P&L is shown in the one currency you pick from the filter bar, converted at the European Central Bank's reference rate on the day each trade closed.

US stock and ETF trades can be shown on delayed US-equity history (T+1) in the Charts beta, with your fills marked; it isn't live data. There are no option or futures bars. See Charts for what the beta covers.

Other ways in from tastytrade

  • Auto-sync, on Pro and Ultimate: a read-only connection through SnapTrade. On Free the broker picker shows it as Auto-sync · Pro. SnapTrade updates transactions once a day, a day behind, and brings no futures. See the SnapTrade guide.

Use one way in for each account. A file import and a SnapTrade connection for the same account can count the same trade twice.

Common questions

Is the tastytrade import free?
Yes. Importing a tastytrade CSV works on every plan, including Free, and it doesn't use a broker connection.
Should I filter the export to trades only?
No. Keep every transaction type. Assignments and exercises arrive as Receive Deliver rows, and without them the shares an assignment delivered would be missing from your journal. Leaf Edge leaves cash movements out by itself.
Why are some rows listed as not imported?
Each row Leaf Edge can't import is listed with its reason: a cash-settled or futures-option assignment, an option with an adjusted deliverable, a transfer or a split, for example. Cash movements such as deposits and dividends aren't trades, so they're left out without a message.
Can I connect tastytrade directly instead?
Not yet. A direct connection through tastytrade's own API is built, but it's switched off for now, so the CSV export is the way in. On Pro and Ultimate a read-only SnapTrade connection is also offered; it runs a day behind and carries no futures.
